Because living on campus provides distinct advantages and optimum learning environments for students, the Trustees of Indiana University approved a policy that requires all undergraduate first-year students (with some exceptions) to live in the residence halls or on-campus apartments.
The exemption process is only for newly admitted students who do not have an active housing contract.
Exemptions From First Year On-Campus
Exemptions from the residency requirement will be considered as follows: Students in the following categories may be granted an exemption from the residency requirement. A formal request for exemption is mandatory. Please follow the process for submitting an exemption under Submitting an Exemption Request.
In addition to the above categories, requests for exemptions from this policy will be considered for special circumstances (e.g. medical, cultural, financial) on a case by case basis.
Deadline Information: Requests must be submitted online by June 1, 2013 for students beginning fall semester 2013. To expedite the processing of your request, please ensure that all required supporting documentation is submitted when requested.
